"What is Real?" – A Contemporary Art Installation by David Gil at Palais Royal, Paris

What Is Real?

Carte Blanche by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication

Following in the footsteps of Agnes B and Maison Martin Margiela, I was honored to receive Carte Blanche from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication for the sixth edition of its prestigious window exhibition program, celebrating contemporary creation.

My installation, What is Real?, transformed five windows of the Palais Royal in Paris into a thought-provoking exploration of reality. A sixth, virtual window added another dimension, streaming an experimental short film that further questioned our understanding of truth.

The installation, cleverly designed as a series of three-dimensional photojournalistic headlines, playfully challenges perceptions by presenting striking "news." One headline, for instance, highlights the rapid spread of a trend, the It-Bag H5N1, eerily mirroring the rise of avian flu cases in Europe. Who knew luxury and a potential pandemic virus could share a stage?

This project allowed me to showcase not just my critical take on luxury but also the uncompromising work of the artists in my collective. This eclectic group includes Olivier Goulet, Marc Gassier, Thomasine Giesecke, Nicolas Babinet, Paul Louis Duranton, Diane Pernet, and Dan Salzmann.

This recognition has been one of the proudest milestones in my creative journey.
